Enhanced Geologic Hydrogen (EGH) repurposes technology developed for Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) to promote a natural reaction that splits water by “rusting rocks” in the subsurface; that is, the oxidation of mineralogically-bound ferrous iron to create hydrogen from water via electron transfer. Our focus is to optimize hydrogen production by focusing on rocks where geologic processes have created a significant chemical advantage that minimizes water usage.
